1. Team squash - end of season update:
A very positive post-Covid return to team squash with EGTSRC once again fielding two teams including a very strong 1st team. The 1st team finished a credible 4th place in Sussex Two East having beaten Dunnings 17-8 away at the end of March so congrats to captain Joe Collier and regular players Mike Breen, Curt Bean, Matt Gimson and Sam Gunter.
Keith Wilson continued to captain the 2nd team who finished towards the bottom of Sussex Five East. Keith was able to rotate a squad where 16 players were used including regulars Andy Norris, Roger Bean and Tracey Webster as well as introducing new players such as promising youngster Thomas Mukasa.
Special mention to Joe Collier who played a total of 21 matches across both 1st and 2nd teams through the season winning 13 of his matches and improving his Sussex League ranking by 225 points, more than any other EGTSRC player.
2. Racketball KO handicap finals:
You will have seen the reports and photos emailed by Andy Norris but for the record:
Mike Breen beat Curt Bean 3-1 in the main final
Nick Woodman beat Joe Collier 3-1 in the plate final
Good matches and great support - well done Andy for organising
3. Racketball Leagues results:
The most recent RB league has now finished and the new league is now published on the website so please check out the changes (and note the rule change below). A good proportion of matches were played across all leagues over the last two months and the winners have been as follows:
Premier League - after a late flurry of points James Norman has returned to the top of the Premier League one point ahead of the ever competitive Roger Bean
League 1 - by manipulating the bonus point rules to great effect Chris Smyth was the winner and gains promotion to the Premier League
League 2 - well done to our visitor from the US Bret Rogers for winning 3 matches plus additional bonus points to gain promotion to League 1 - will it be the Premier League next for Bret?
League 3 - Neil Clowes was the clear winner but well done also to Karen Millard for gaining promotion as well.
League 4 - a clean sweep by Tim Swainson winning all his matches 3-0 - well done Tim!
The new leagues are now posted on the website and run until the end of June. After some debate at the bar (and to encourage Chris Smyth to win a match or two) your organiser has decided to reduce the bonus points (for playing a minimum of 2 matches before the midpoint at the end of May) to 4 points.
4. Squash Open championship KO competition:
The competition is progressing with the final to be at the end of May. There are some excellent quarter finals matches to be played as follows:
Mike Breen v Toby Glynn
Sam Gunter v Giles Cowdell
Curt Bean v Ian Creelman
Roger Bean v tba
5. New Squash Ladder:
The squash leagues have been replaced with a new Squash Ladder that is posted on the noticeboard at the club together with the rules (which can also be found under the Squash league tab on the website). 30 players listed and some matches have already been played. So if you feel your position is too low you know what to do………
6. Ladies squash
No team matches for the Ladies this season but an enthusiastic group led by Heather Bean who have their own club night on a Tuesday once a month with food after.
7. Friday Fitness sessions
Giles has started a regular Friday evening fitness class at 6.10pm each week that is open to all club members.
8. Squash / RB coaching with Giles
Coach Giles has also started a Saturday morning squash / RB coaching course for beginners / improvers and adults / juniors (under 19) on a 6 week block half term basis with drills, coaching and games-based exercises to help get you started.
