Notice to Parents: Important Update on Coaching Structure

Dear Parents,

I hope this message finds you well. I want to take a moment to update you on some important changes regarding my coaching structure. I have been working hard to manage my health while striving to continue providing the best coaching experience for your children.

Unfortunately, due to ongoing challenges with my health, including severe arthritis in my jaw, neck, and spine (following hip replacements eight years ago which are also showing signs of wear), it has become clear that continuing in the same way I have been is no longer safe for me. Though I’ve tried my best to push through, I must now take a step back to prioritise my well-being, while still maintaining the quality of coaching that I am so passionate about.

That being said, I am committed to continuing my work with your children. My love for coaching and helping young players growth has not diminished, and I want to make sure that the coaching experience remains professional, engaging, and effective — perhaps even more so than before.

Here is how we are moving forward:

  • Mytch will be delivering the majority of 1:1 lessons. These will be carefully planned in collaboration with me to ensure consistency and quality in the sessions. Every lesson will have a written plan. I will continue to be actively involved by reviewing regular video recordings of lessons that Mytch will take, and we will have phone holders attached to the fencing to make it quick and easy to video. This will really help to spot things that are hard to see and often missed in 'real time'.
  • Tournaments and Goal Setting: I will utilise the LTA website to help plan tournaments for all players and set long-term goals for each child. These plans will be reviewed on a few-month basis, with a strong emphasis on steady, achievable progress.
  • Parental Responsibility: Parents will be responsible for booking the tournaments via the LTA website. All communication and the £28 lesson payment will still be via myself.
  • My Continued Involvement: I will still take part in the on court coaching, at least once every 6 weeks. I will be running the group lessons that your children are in which will help towards the 1:1 lesson planning.

While these changes may result in some financial adjustments, I believe they are necessary for me to continue doing what I love — working with such brilliant, dedicated children. My commitment to improving both the experience and the outcomes for our players remains strong, and I look forward to making this next chapter even more rewarding for everyone involved.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. This will commence next week. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions or concerns.

Kind regards,
Edd
