Junior coaching at Braid runs in three blocks as follows:
Block 1 - mid-Feb to Easter (6-7weeks school term);
Block 2 - Easter to end of June (10 weeks school term); and
Block 3 - Sept-Nov (10 weeks).
During each Block group coaching for junior players is provided in four age groups on Wednesday and Friday afternoons as follows:
Wednesday
Red Ball (P1-P4:5-8yrs)
Time: 4.15-5.15 pm
Red ball class for players in P1-P4 (with some flexibility for preschool or older beginners). Using red low compression balls on a mini court. Coaches will help children to develop adaptive skills, coordination, balance & speed, and a basic understanding of tennis shots and how to rally & score. Through basic instruction, children continue to prepare for the game ahead.
Orange Ball: P4-P6 (8 to10 years) & Green Ball: P7/S1 (11 to 12 years)
Time: 5.15-6.15 pm
Orange ball class for players transitioning from red ball or beginner 9-10yr olds. At the Orange stage, children will continue to learn the rules & scoring to play the game from serve & return. Coaches will support children to grow their motor skills (orientation, hand-eye coordination, running & moving) to play in a dynamic environment. At the Orange stage children will increase proficiency, problem-solving skills & learn sportsmanship.
Green ball class for 10–11 year olds or advanced 9 year olds. At the Green stage, children enjoy playing tennis on a full-size court. Coaches will help children to grow their game to play with variety and will continue to improve their tactical awareness whilst refining technique.

You don't have to be a junior member to attend the junior coaching sessions, but priority for available spaces will always be given to members first. Junior members will also get priority booking for holiday camps. In addition, junior members are able to attend our family fun session on a Sunday and represent our junior teams.
Parents are asked to read the Club's Safeguarding policy statement and Safeguarding policy: https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/BraidLTC/Safeguarding/Policies.
