GLTC June Newsletter

Resumption of doubles from 01 June

Dear Members

It's not often I can start the next newletter with the same introduction.  Just as the sunshine arrives, more great news -

Both singles play and doubles play is now permitted with people from outside of your household, as long as you remain 2 metres apart as far as possible - meaning that four people from different households can now play doubles.  Each player must follow the exclusion rules below if affected by Covid 19.

I am obviously delighted that this project has been fulfilled and do hope everyone can get on court soon.  The new courts will be colour sprayed and permanently lined in a few weeks, the current lines are temporary.

Covid 19 - Latest LTA advice
There has been no change to  the advice issued by the LTA.  Everyone is welcome to play as a family unit at no extra charge throughout June.  Or you can arrange to meet one person from another household and play.  Or play doubles as above.
Please follow the exclusion and hygiene protocols that can be found online here and below this newsletter.

Important - New Court Use
We are not allowed to use the new courts when the temp goes above 23 degrees as part of the curing process!  Plese therefore do not use after 11 a.m. during the current hot weather.

Club Warm Up Tournaments - Singles and Doubles
To celebrate our return to tennis and our new courts, the club is running a tournament with 2 delicious bottles of bubbly to the winners during June.  This is now a doubles and a singles event.
The winner is the guy or lady and for doubles the pair who achieve the most points during social tennis games played in June.  Simply arrange to meet somebody or take your family for a game, 2 points for a win, 1 point for playing the set.  A game comprises 1 set but feel free to play more!  The more games you play the more chance you have!
So two tournaments to join!
Please email your results to kitthome@gmail.com and I will log them.  Winners announced on 01 July.

Club Tournament
This will begin in July please do let me or James know if you would like to play!

Court Bookings
Unfortunately we are still sorting out the online booking IT gremlin.  For the time being, please remember to text James to book a court.

First Aid / Club House / Emergency Numbers
Just a reminder, as the Leisure Centre and Club House remain closed under Government instructions, there are no first aid or toilet facilities on site.  As the club house contains a kitchen and rfeception area en route to the loos' it is preferable that this stays shut to avoid 'gathering' and Covid compliant cleaning costs.

Family / Household Tennis
As a 'Thank You' for bearing with us we would like to relax the membership rules slightly to allow you to play with your household member [s] until 30 June even if you do not have a couples or family membership.  Hopefully they will enjoy this if new to tennis!  I am sure there'll be other opportunities to give to members that find this gesture irrelevent during the year and thank you again for bearing with it ....
