Young players from Goole Tennis Centre enjoyed plenty of tournament success over the Easter break, with medals picked up across the county and beyond.
Top billing goes to Seb, who won the Leeds Easter Open in the u16 boys category, a Grade 3 tournament, while Evie won her first u16 tournament at Wigginton, just days after her 12th birthday. Seb also performed brilliant at Liversedge, narrowly losing to a much older and more experienced opponent at the semo-final stage.
Evie’s brother Alexander came second in Barnsley at u9s, while Mia racked up three straight tournament wins in the u14 girls category at Barnsley, Wigginton and Leeds. Finally, Albert won the u10 boys at Barnsley and was runner-up at Leeds and Caunton, while also coming second in the u11 boys at Liversedge.
The adults Humber League also kicked off last week, with the fixtures pitting the Goole Mixed Doubles B and C teams against each other. On this occasion, the C team took the spoils in a close-run fixture. The Men's B team lost out at Cherry Burton on Monday, but there was plenty to celebrate for the Women's C Team on Tuesday as they - Maria, Pam, Tracy and Jan - beat Beverley 7-1. A fantastic start to the season!
All the players are coached at Goole Tennis Centre, a nine-court venue on Westfield Banks, with plenty of sessions available for players of all ages and abilities. Being a beginner is no barrier, tennis is for all.
