After not being able to hold the tournament last year due to the Covid restrictions it felt good to be back competing in our ever-popular winter tournament. With lateral flow tests taken in the morning we were lucky to only have two players drop out due to positive tests. Everyone contributed to the buffet and we enjoyed a wonderful spread of food which was enjoyed between the rounds of tennis. As in previous years we had a full turn out of thirty-two members competing for the Bob Teasdale Trophy playing across four of the centre’s indoor courts. After the tennis we presented trophies to our winners and runners up from the tournament and also our knockout tournaments played earlier in the year.
The tournament is made up of two groups of eight pairs based roughly on ability, with the pairs in each group competing against each other in timed rounds. The winning group pairs Steve and Pam and Ian and Geoff played a final set with the pairings split to even things out. The final produced some competitive tennis from all four players with Geoff and Steve eventually winning 6-2.
The presentations made by our Chair Jane Wilis saw trophies and prizes being awarded to the day’s winners and runners up and to the finalists of the 2021 knockout tournaments. As always a big thank you goes to our treasurer Fay who does a first-rate job running the tournament on the day.
