With no club tournaments or social events last year due to the pandemic our members were eager to take part in this year’s summer tournament and the thirty two places were quickly taken up with reserves ready to drop in if needed. The weather which can often disappoint was warm and sunny with a bit of a breeze, which is often to be expected up at Graves.
Once we had all arrived everyone was paired up and put into two groups to play the round robin stages to determine a winner and runner up from each group who would then take part in the semi-finals. Before the semis took place and everyone else also played another round just for the fun of playing tennis we took a break to enjoy the food from the buffet which everyone had contributed to.
One of the semis saw a family battle with Daryl and Jo beating Charlotte and Roger, whilst Alice and Steve defeated Phil and Paul. The final was a closely fought contest with some excellent tennis from both pairs with Jo and Daryl being our eventual winners. Our Chair Jane Willis presented the Malcolm Rowland Trophy, medals and a bottle of wine to the winners, the runners were awarded a medal and some chocolates. Well done to our winners, runners up and everyone who took part. Many thanks go to Jane, Fay and Sue who were once again involved with the preparation and organisation of the tournament and ensured the day ran smoothly.
