Winter League - First Match

September 28, 2023

In a thrilling opening match of the Winter League season, we squared off against the formidable Harrow Lawn 1st Team on our home courts. Despite facing a strong opponent, we exhibited incredible determination and skill, narrowly losing to Harrow with a final score of 7-9.

The format for the match was  two pairs from each team competing, with each pair playing two sets against the other. A point was awarded to each team for a 6-6 tie, while two points were up for grabs for each set won. This resulted in a total of 16 points available for both teams, making every set crucial in the quest for victory.

The match kicked off under favorable weather conditions, with clear skies and a supportive crowd gathered to cheer on the home team. However, as the match progressed, light showers descended upon the courts, making the conditions more challenging for the players.

Mark and Arthur, affectionately referred to as the "Bryan brothers" by their teammates, stepped up to the challenge remarkably well. Despite their limited recent doubles play due to injuries, they showcased their exceptional chemistry and skill on the court. Their performance earned Greenford crucial points on the board, contributing significantly to the team's overall score.

Stan and Imran, the second pair, also gave an outstanding performance. Stan, in particular, seemed to be on fire, displaying incredible agility and precision in his shots. Their efforts were commendable and added valuable points to the team's tally.

Facing a formidable opponent like Harrow Lawn 1st Team, our 7-point haul is a promising start to the Winter League season. While narrowly missing out on victory, the team's strong performance against a team with championship aspirations bodes well for their future matches. We remain determined to bounce back and continue our pursuit of success in the league.

As the season unfolds, we will undoubtedly build on this promising start, and fans eagerly anticipate more thrilling matches in the weeks to come.
