This membership year we are supporting The Little Green Sock Project.
This is a small, but impactful, grassroots children’s charity in Trafford which works alongside health and social care providers and schools, to identify and help families in need of support.
This is what the charity says:
“At Little Green Sock Project, we believe every child deserves the basics to thrive. With a third of children in Greater Manchester living in poverty, and over 11,000 of those in Trafford, the need for support is greater than ever. We are a community-driven charity dedicated to making a difference for families facing financial hardship, ensuring no child goes without essential clothing and items.
WHAT WE DO: We harness the generosity of our local community to collect and redistribute quality pre-loved children's clothes and essentials. Working closely with referral partners like health visitors, foodbanks, and domestic violence refuges, we ensure that items reach the families who need them most - especially during times of crisis.
OUR IMPACT: 1,594 bundles distributed, supporting children and families across Greater Manchester. 1,147 children have received essential clothing and items, ensuring they have what they need to thrive. 947 parents have experienced reduced financial pressure, allowing them to focus on other critical needs. Over £185,000 worth of items distributed, giving new life to perfectly good clothes and making a real difference in our community. 58% of our referrals support single parents, directly helping some of the most vulnerable families. 29% of our referrals are for families fleeing abuse, often with few belongings.
WHY IT MATTERS: We’re passionate about more than just clothing kids-we’re fighting child poverty and promoting sustainability. By reusing and recycling, we’re not just easing financial burdens; we’re also protecting the planet for the next generation. Little Green Sock Project offers a practical, powerful way for our community to come together, help local families, and make a meaningful impact. Join us in making sure no child has to go without. Together, we can support local families, protect our environment, and create a brighter future for all.”
