Di Freeman Tournament 2016

From Stephen Mann

This tournament is held annually in memory of our former secretary Di Freeman. Di was a member of the club from 1964 until her untimely death from cancer in 1987.  Following her death the club purchased a cup to be awarded to the winner each year.

Di was a great advocate of club play and this tournament is based on a handicap system which gives every entrant a chance of winning.  The tournament was expertly organised this year by Heather Forrest, our Membership Secretary, and had 24 entrants from all sections of the club, including seven juniors.

With excellent weather, tea and cakes provided, and an ethos emphasising a friendly competitive approach to play, a great time was had by all.

The winner was Ali Taverner, seen here collecting the cup from Stephen Mann, one of only two members present on the day to have been a member during Di’s time at the club.
