Heswall Lawn Tennis Club
Quarry Road East
I am very pleased to confirm that the Committee is now permitted to reopen the tennis club on Wednesday, 13th May on a restricted basis, subject to guidance from the Government and the LTA (see www.lta.org.uk)
- Members are allowed to play tennis BUT singles only unless they are with other members of the same household, in which case doubles is permitted.
- Please do not change ends.
- The nets will be left at the correct height to avoid touching the winder or measuring stick. Please avoid touching any surfaces, the gate to courts 7 and 8 will remain ajar.
- Please try to use new balls when you play and make sure they are marked. Avoid using your hands to pick up balls which are not yours.
- The clubhouse will remain closed until further notice, although in an emergency, toilet facilities may be used.
- Please respect the social distancing guidelines in the car park and around the courts. After you have finished playing tennis, please leave the club.
- Please wash your hands at home before and after play because of handling the balls. If you have any hand sanitiser, please bring it with you to use after play.
- If people are waiting to play, please vacate your court after an hour.
Group coaching remains postponed. Individual coaching lessons will be available on courts 5 and 6. Please contact Head coach Sue Davies for further details 07799 730983.
In the meantime, the Committee would like to thank the numerous members who to date have paid their subs. The Committee appreciates very much the support that this has provided to the club during this difficult period. The subs are now our only source of income because of the closure of the bar, the cessation of the dance school, Pilates, bridge, etc and the lack of social functions. The Committee has reduced the club's expenditure to a minimum but we still have to pay various fixed costs (insurance, TV and music licences, utilities etc) and to meet the loan agreements for the new courts. Nevertheless, the Club is in a fairly stable financial position thanks to the efforts of our Treasurer, Melanie Sullivan. In particular, Melanie has worked very hard to obtain a retail, hospitality and leisure grant which is available to sports clubs from Wirral council and has obtained a refund of our LTA registration fees which was offered to all clubs by the LTA.
The Wirral summer tennis league has been postponed until at least 14th June. From that date it is hoped to play the second half of the summer season and also finish the remaining matches of the winter league. This, of course, is also subject to review by the league committee at the end of May and further restrictions being lifted by the Government and LTA.
Finally, the Club's courts and grounds have been maintained in good condition by volunteers since the beginning of the lockdown and are ready and waiting for members to resume play.
I look forward to seeing you all again shortly.

Wirral Under 16s Double's Tournament
A great afternoon of tennis at HLTC for the junior doubles tournament. The sun shone and there was a great standard of friendly competitive tennis by all the juniors. Club's represented were Neston, Wallasey Manor, Port Sunlight, Hoole and Heswall.
Congratulations to the winners Jack and Elizabeth from Neston. And the runners up, Jack and Jude from Heswall. Gabs and Jack Prescott came in third place. Isaac and Jamie from Hoole came fourth.
Thank you to all who competed and supported the event, and to all the helpers, and Sue Davies who made it all happen.
