TENNIS: Murray's masterclass

JAMIE Murray took time out from his preparation for last weekend’s Davis Cup victory against Tunisia at the Bolton Arena by putting some local young tennis players through their paces.

Players from Holcombe Brook Tennis Club showed off their skills to Murray, Great Britain team-mate Colin Fleming, and team coach Louis Cayer after the Bury club had been treated to a masterclass from the trio.

Holcombe Brook coach Sue Lawson said: “We really felt that British tennis reached out to us and we were a part of something really special.

“It means a lot to me and the youngsters who are training and travelling around the country trying to increase their rating. It shows them that success is definitely attainable and inspires them to work hard at their tennis. It gave everyone here a real boost.”

Murray said: “Team competition has many benefits to clubs, players and coaches and is a great way to attract more people to the sport and encourage players to stay in the sport as they get older.
