Community Café report

Despite stiff competition from markets in Malton and York, Hovingham Village Market still attracted 804 people through the gates. Understandably it was busier around the outside stalls than inside the hall. All buttering of baps, cooking of bacon and sausages, and serving of coffees and teas was done by club member volunteers. The array of cakes, tray bakes, cup cakes, mince pies and quiches was spectacular - thanks to all the volunteer bakers from the Club, who with some of their husbands 'manned' the fort, serving and washing up. All in all, it was a magnificent sterling effort by everyone. This was recognised by a front page photo  in the Gazette and Herald today. We also appeared on page 17!

As a result of all this effort, a substantial sum was raised to add to the tennis club 'sinking' fund against future court maintenance and/or repair.
