Anniversary Event

We held a very successful anniversary / open day, marking 50 years in our current location (and 130 years as a club).  A junior mini-tennis event was held, and junior medals were presented to the 4 best achievers in the last year (Keanna Fernando, Isla Hindle, Taylor Jarrett & Georgiana Major).  A round-robin “American style” event took place throughout the afternoon, and a speed of service contest.  The fastest legitimate serves were Josh Ratnage with 94 mph, Todd Ratnage 90mph, Adrian Bonnett 81mph, Chris Hindle 73mph.

It was great to welcome back many club legends from earlier times:

Joan Pateman (club secretary 1998-2003);

Pauline Watson (former club member);

Joe Watson (club secretary 1991);

Neil Macalister (match secretary 1986-1996);

Pauline Went (former club member and widow of former Chair);

Jean Heath (at least 7 singles titles - a club record - and 3 doubles titles between 1976 and 1993.  Club Chair 1984-88);

Alison Norrington (singles champion 2002 2003 2004, women's doubles champion 2003 2004 2005, club secretary 2004-05 and regular league match player);

Simon Wills (4 times singles champion 1982 1986 1990 1991, plus 3 doubles titles 1989 1992 (MD) 1992 (MXD);

Liz Seville (club member and league match player);

Mark Cory (4 times men's doubles champion 2003 2006 2010 2011 and regular league match player);

Olga Quirke (regular club player);

Apologies were received from Mike Bysouth, Mick & Chris Marion, Hazel & Malcolm Argent, Bernard Gormley.  We were sorry to learn that Ron Went, former Chair & Treasurer and long-time member Robert Charleston, had passed away in recent years.
