Davis Cup Legacy
Following on from GB winning the Davis Cup in November 2015 for the first time in 79 years the Davis Cup Legacy Programme was launched by the LTA.
The programme is designed to give 10,000 children, between the ages of 5-8 years old, the chance to get involved in tennis and enrol on a six week course of free lessons in which the even get a racket to use and keep after the completion of the course.
The LTA were looking for 1,000 of the country’s most passionate and committed coaches to deliver this legacy at clubs and venues across the country in the summer of 2016. The players will be those who have never picked up a racket before.
The application process was quite thorough and involved sending a video to the LTA outlining why Henfield, and the coach, should be considered to be part of this great initiative.
The fantastic news is that both club coaches, Joerg and Keith, were selected and as a result are now part of the programme and we as a club are proud to be a Davis Cup Legacy Programme venue participant. Look out for our coaching team donning the full GB Davis Cup kit in the coming months.
The programme will run over the summer months with both Joerg and Keith running sessions with up to 10 children with the hope that they become future players, new members of our club, and who knows one of them might end up being the next Davis Cup Captain!!
Well done both of you.
