Further to the first update provided to last year's club membership on 18 November, the JGTC Committee are very happy to report that just before Christmas all the necessary contracts were finally signed off by the LTA, the CEC and the designated contractor Sportex. A pre-start meeting has also recently taken place with all the key stakeholders and, weather permitting, the programme of works is due to commence on Monday 27 January.
There will be two distinctive phases of the works. The initial phase, estimated to take 6 to 7 weeks to complete, will focus on the removal of the existing blaes surface and replacing it with macadam along with the installation of new fencing and a smartgate to secure the premises. After an appropriate curing period of 2 to 3 weeks, the second phase involves the application of an acrylic paint coating and marking lines which should only take one week to complete, subject to benign weather conditions. The entire project will be overseen by the consultants TSA Riley appointed by the LTA.
All things considered, we can estimate opening the new playing facilities around the time of the Easter weekend.
Sincere thanks once again to those of you who either made a cash donation, provided a five-year interest-free loan or subscribed to a five-year fixed membership to help fund this project to transform our local tennis facilities.
Finally, as a courtesy, we will be providing a letter to all our near neighbours alerting them to the upcoming programme of works.
Best Wishes,
JGTC Committee
