Keswick & Braithwaite Lawn Tennis Club look forward to getting onto the tennis courts with both old and new friends 2019 was a very successful year for Keswick & Braithwaite Lawn Tennis Club.
The Ladies 1st team and Mens 1st team were crowned champions of the top divisions of the West Cumbria Tennis League and the Mens 2nd team gained promotion to the top Division by winning Division 2.
In addition, early in 2020, the Club appointed Gary Payton, a very experienced tennis coach and GB international player, as head coach. Gary devised a full coaching programme for both juniors and seniors which was scheduled and ready to start in April 2020.
The Club was therefore very excited about the prospects for the 2020 tennis season.
Unfortunately the world changed and due to Covid restrictions very little tennis was able to be played last year. The courts remained closed for much of 2020 and the Club could not open to visitors, hold our usual array of events and competitions, or take part in any leagues.
However, following the recent announcement of the roadmap to lift restrictions the Club is looking forward to resuming our full range of activities over the forthcoming months and enjoying a full and varied 2021 tennis season on our 3 hard courts (one with floodlights) at the Braithwaite Institute and 3 grass courts at Fitz Park in the centre of Keswick.
The Club will reopen on 29 March but to comply with continuing restrictions this will be for members only. It is recognised that outdoor tennis is one of the safest sports to play in Covid times as it provides the opportunity to get exercise and fresh air in a low risk environment. The Club is very happy to welcome new members of all ages and abilities to take advantage of the benefits that outdoor tennis can provide. An added bonus is that the subscriptions for all categories of membership for 2021 have been reduced by 20% from previous years. Full details of all the membership categories and the new, reduced rates can be found on our website https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/KeswickandBraithwaiteTennisClub/Membership/Join
Although nothing can be confirmed yet, we expect to be fully open to visitors on or after 17 May at which time we will hold Open Days for anyone to come down and try out our facilities, meet the coach and members, and to play some fun tennis. We will also start the coaching programme which will include sessions for all ages from very young primary school age to seniors as soon as restrictions allow. We also expect that league and friendly matches will resume at some stage this year and that we can defend the titles won in 2019.
Full details of exact dates for these Open Days and the start of the coaching programme will be published in the Keswick Reminder. You can also find full information about the Club, contact details if you have any questions about membership, and to keep up to date with what is happening at the Club on our website
We look forward to welcoming both old and new members of all ages and abilities from 29 March.
