A generally fine Autumn has resulted in much activity with both social and more competitive tennis. With our all-weather courts activity will continue throughout the winter.

Sunday tournaments

The summer series of Sunday afternoon friendly tournaments came to a finale at the beginning of October. Over the summer almost half the adult club members participated at some stage. For the first time this year a tournament had to be cancelled because it was too hot!  For the last 10 years they have been run by Lis and Mark Clifford who have stepped down now and were given a warm thank you by those present at the last tournament.   Some other Club members have agreed to take over the organisation for next year. These tournaments are very much a part of Club activities – indeed when I joined some years ago, I found these a brilliant way to meet members and also to improve my game.

With no Sunday tournaments in the winter there are often people wanting to play on a Sunday afternoon and games are typically arranged using the Club’s members WhatsApp.  

League matches

The Club has entered 3 teams in the Datchworth Autumn Leagues so that players of all standards can participate in these matches. The teams have in general been doing well with some tightly contested matches. Winter league matches will begin soon along with other external matches

Adult group coaching sessions

These continue throughout the autumn and winter on a Wednesday evening. There are sessions for both beginner/improvers and the more advanced.

The beginners/improvers sessions are specifically aimed to enable those attending to play tennis in a stress-free and friendly environment. It is a brilliant opportunity to meet fellow members with a shared interest in tennis. Members once they have more confidence come to our Thursday evening Club night which runs throughout the year, where they can meet and play with fellow members in a relaxed yet organised environment.  

 The more advance group coaching sessions concentrate on match play tactics. These group classes are for players of a similar standard and give one technical and tactical expertise, typically for members who like to play in one of our league teams.
 

Junior group coaching sessions
Our current Saturday and Sunday morning sessions for kids and teenagers continues until half term and then after the break starts up again until near to Christmas. Our groups cover all ages and abilities. Our coach has 2 assistants so that close tuition can be provided.
