The summer weather has resulted in plenty of on court activity and the light evenings have found people playing late, even without the flood lights. The open afternoon for the Great British Tennis weekend in June was a great success with loads of children of all abilities playing, ably supervised by our coach Guy. Some children were enthused enough to persuade their parents to let them join the Club.
Tennis camps in the summer holidays - August sees a break in routine coaching but Guy is arranging tennis camps on 14-16th August – please contact him direct to book in guy@activeadvantage.uk or text/phone him on 07885 420723.
Grass Courts - the hot weather has meant that those few remaining clubs with grass courts have been able to use them extensively. For those who hanker after playing on grass or just would like to experience what the Wimbledon performers use, we will be repeating our last summer’s experience of having a day at Frinton Lawn Tennis Club in August – those interested need to contact Phil Skone if they have not done so already phil.skone@ntlworld.com .
September – this will see the return of routine mini/junior coaching after school on a Friday (3 sessions beteween 4-7pm). The session for the oldest players was very active in the summer and will no doubt continue that way in September, although there is room for younger ones at the earlier sessions. Senior coaching has continued on Wednesday evenings and Guy has also been running our weekly Club night session on a Thursday evening once a month keeping us on our toes and giving us useful tips. Guy also provides individual coaching sessions (guy@activeadvantage.uk)
Tennis leagues - involvement in the summer Datchworth tennis leagues has just finished and although none of our 7 teams who entered managed promotion (2 just missed out) all did well in their respective divisions and none were relegated!
Club Championship – the tournaments were again highly successful and the finals day was completed with a well-attended barbecue in the evening. The Sunday afternoon friendly tournaments continue to be highly popular with a slightly less competitive atmosphere and with tea after; these continue until the end of September on alternate Sunday afternoons.
Cardio-tennis - a down side of the hot weather has resulted in Cardio-tennis on a Sunday morning being understandably too exhausting, so it is currently on hold and will restart in September at 11.30 on Sunday mornings.
Contact - anyone interested in finding out a bit more about the Club can either look at the website (www.knebworthtennisclub.co.uk) , contact us by email (enquiries@knebworthtennisclub.co.uk) or alternatively drop by the Club in the Recreation Ground and talk to members – good times would be on a Sunday afternoon or Thursday evening when there is almost always plenty of activity.
