PLAYYour way

The LTA has launched an initiative called LTA RALLY for the summer months. Many of you may see it advertised on the TV. The main focus is on attracting non tennis players to our game. To help support the Campaign and try to encourage more people to play, we are offering 4 x 1-hour slots a week that can be booked on a Pay to Play basis by anyone. We are also offering 8 x 1hour free sessions on a Sunday morning 10 to 11am for any Non members to come along and have a go. The first one is Sunday 5th July and we have 7 people signed up for this, maximum 8 people. 2 Club members/ Committee members will be available to hit with these people as well as give them details about the Club. Finally, to support the Campaign and encourage adults to play, a Special Summer membership for 8 weeks will be available for £20. My grateful thanks to Liz Lewin, who has spent many hours setting this up.

Katy Lewin

Katy has been very busy promoting tennis at Ledbury , rejuvenating our facebook pages, offering hitting sessions for Juniors and parents, as well as arranging for the Committee to go to Boughton Tennis Club to play on their carpet surface.

Katy is sending ALL members an opportunity to take part in a variety of tennis playing opportunities. I do hope many of you will want to take part in the activities that Katy is willing to set up, organise and run.

Form coming out imminently, and please get this back to her for July 12th

Also on the form is an opportunity to express an interest in a Junior tennis camp during the summer holidays. Limited spaces are available so get in quick when this comes out and look out for the information on a separate message. Let your Grandchildren, nieces, nephews etc know who may be interested.

    Boughton Tennis Club

New Surface.

Exploring our options for a new surface has been well orchestrated and planned by Jeff Arlott. Three companies have been to our courts and given their opinions and advice regarding a new surface, Grimshaws, Courtstall and Euroclay. Last week a small group of us were allowed to visit Boughton Tennis Club to play on their newly refurbished courts. Once all the quotes are in and Jeff has checked the companies financially, and the Committee has discussed the pros and cons of each surface a decision will be made to award one of the Companies the work. Installation will probably be in September with court closure of about a week.

The Courts are in an OK state, possibly playable on for another 18 months or so, however they are ideal to lay a carpet on as minimal work needs doing. Should we leave resurfacing now then more remedial work has to be done before an artificial surface can be laid. Why carpet some say? It has been proven that tarmac courts are very hard on knee, ankle and hip joints. A carpet has much more give and should allow us all to play longer….The new surface will not be as slippery when damp/wet, causing fewer trips and falls.

Hope you like the BLUE! A good background to see the ball on, so those of us with deteriorating eyesight should be able to see the ball better!

Please, do all stay safe, follow government guidelines, enjoy being back on court! and keep smiling.
