Evening Mixed Doubles Tournament

A relatively small draw of six couple made for an easy to organise and fun evening of tennis, starting around six pm and finished by 9pm.

Two groups of three played off to produce a grand final, a trophy final (for the runners up), and a plate final (for the runners up to the runners up!).

The format worked really well as everyone got a good, tight match to finish with. The plate final betwen the Milnes and the Fleets made for as exciting viewing as any of the matches with long, hard fought rallies throughout.

Andrew and Sandra Broadhurst beat off the challenge of Sally Nicoll and Clive Francis in the trophy final, but the new names on the trophy are the same as the last ones, as Oliver and Ellen Broadhurst beat Debbie Richens and her partner Graham Ross in a very high class final. The young Broadhursts putting together a run of four games in a row to triumph 7-5 after staring down the barrel at 5-3.

Thanks to Jim and Helen Milne for organising the delicious BBQ burgers and beers.
