Tennis Club General
Malmesbury Tennis Club
Malmesbury Tennis Club is situated in the heart of the town, just off Tetbury Hill, in a secluded spot with views of Malmesbury Abbey. The club was founded in 1911, and has continued to develop ever since. Situated in its present location since the 1930's, it now boasts 5 hard courts (4 floodlit) , a mini court and practice tennis wall, together with a clubhouse that offers catering, changing and WC facilities. It seems poetic that much of the recent development was helped by funding from the inspired facilities scheme, as it is such a beautiful and inspiring location to play tennis. Money made available as part of the Olympic legacy project has helped us create our facility, which is opening in 2016, the year GB defend an Olympic gold in Rio as well as The Davis Cup.
We are affiliated with the LTA achieving the Tennis Mark accreditation, recognising that the club operates to the LTA's highest standards. Being an LTA accredited club means we have been recognised for achieving excellent standards consistently for the past 5 years. The LTA endorses and supports our Club’s tennis programme, policies and procedures.
Tennis at the Club
Malmesbury Tennis Club provides social and competitive tennis for all ages and abilities. We have a thriving inclusive coaching programme for both juniors and adults for both members and non- members.
We run Club Sessions for all full members every Tuesday and Friday (March-October) from 6pm and Sunday morning from 10 am. A winter league runs from November to February and run a Summer Club league?
The Club is part of the Chippenham and District Tennis League and Juniors play in the Aegon League. Please see our Team pages for contact details of the current team reps.
Access and Parking
Access to the club is via a narrow private residential road. If you choose to drive into the club please do not exceed the speed limit of 5 mph. It is often better to use parking spaces on Tetbury Hill and walk. During pay and play sessions on Saturday we ask that you do not park at the club.
In 2009 the adjacent land was purchased by the Club and we are thrilled to announce that we completed the development of 2 additional courts, a mini court and a tennis practice wall last year.
The club members and committee embarked on a fund raising campaign and achieved over £140,000. This would not have been possible without the contributions and support from the LTA, Sport England, Malmesbury Carnival Fund, Malmesbury Round Table and Clark and Maslin Architects.
Of course raising money from grants and fund raising events can only happen with a huge amount of time, energy and support from many club volunteers so thank you all too for making this possible.
