Code of Conduct (inc. Fair Play)

Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct complements the LTA’s ‘Fair Play and principles in tennis’ policy (see below), to ensure that all MRC members and guests can play in a safe and enjoyable environment. We should also strive to ensure that our actions provide a positive role model for junior members whilst at the Club.

Respect and Behaviour

All Club members and Club officials are expected to show tolerance, courtesy, good manners, fairness, honesty and integrity in their dealings (verbal or written) with other Club members, officials, Club members’ guests, social visitors and visiting teams.

General Rules:

  • Keep courts, language and play clean.
  • Aggressive, offensive, abusive or loudly obscene language or behaviour should not be tolerated.
  • Encourage fair and safe play.
  • Clear any debris from the courts before playing (e.g. fallen leaves).
  • Leave the courts and the Clubhouse as you would hope to find them.
  • Welcome new members and players to the Club irrespective of their experience of the game and their level of play.
  • Be sensitive to the feelings of others and endeavour not to offend those feelings.
  • Respect all those who work on the Club’s behalf: everything is achieved by people who volunteer their time and energy, so your cooperation and collaboration are very welcome.
  • Respect all our neighbours and all those who live nearby.

Club Reputation

All Club members should endeavour to protect and further the Club’s good reputation. If you are playing for MRC in a league match or a friendly competition, remember you are also an ambassador for the Club and, as such, you represent the Club: you are expected to observe the principles of both this Code of Conduct and the LTA’s ‘Fair Play and principles in Tennis’ policy.

Misconduct

Following suitable investigation and two appropriate warnings, the Committee shall have power to refuse membership or expel a member only for good and sufficient cause, such as misconduct or actions likely to bring the Club into disrepute.  Expulsion may also be considered if a member flagrantly and repeatedly refuses to follow this endorsed Club Code of Conduct.

Fair Play is an essential value in sport. We follow the guidance of the LTA and are committed to ensuring that sport is played in a fair, open and inclusive nature at all levels.

Fair Play is just as relevant in a fun game with friends as it is in a Grand Slam or major tournament. Fair Play includes:

  • Good sportsmanship, honesty and respect whether you win or lose
  • Learning to challenge yourself and improve social skills
  • Taking responsibility for your actions, calling scores and lines clearly and fairly even if it costs you the point
  • Learning and following the rules and being a role model to younger people
  • Enjoyment of the sport

It is important for everyone to uphold Fair Play both on and off court whether it be players, parents, coaches, officials or volunteers.
