Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Melbourne Tennis Club  will be following and adhering to the LTA guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic.

Could everyone please read the following guidelines and we will be keeping you updated as and when we receive guidance from the LTA.

1. Anyone over 70 or who has a pre-existing condition that makes them vulnerable to the coronavirus (basically anyone who is offered a free annual flu-jab) is STRONGLY ADVISED not to take part in tennis at this moment. This also includes asthmatics and pregnant women.

2. Anyone who has been advised to self-isolate or is part of a self-isolating family SHOULD NOT ATTEND the tennis club. This includes everyone who has symptoms of a persistent cough OR high temperature.

3. We will continue with junior coaching sessions for now, but clearly children that are in an isolating family should not attend. Children are at less risk than adults and it is important for them to continue to have fun at this difficult time.

4, Adults attending coaching sessions are at greater risk than juniors so should carefully consider whether to attend this group activity

For now, we’d encourage others to consider tennis as an opportunity to stay fit and healthy at this difficult time. However, we would ask that anyone attending the club:

Where possible wash hands before and after going on court.

Avoids contact and distances from others as much as possible whilst playing – eg avoid touching, hugging, shaking hands, high-fiving, etc

Clearly we will review our guidance as we get more information from the Government and the LTA over the coming weeks. We may not always be able to update you, so please stay informed by checking the government and LTA webpages frequently.

Thank you for respecting the “social distancing” guidance. It is everyone’s responsibility to limit the spread of this virus as much as possible to ensure that the NHS is still able to cope and to protect the vulnerable from getting it at the peak of the infection phase.

Stay safe, keep healthy and our best wishes to all of you.
