THE MICHAEL BATCHELOR TOUNAMENT

On a glorious sunny day 16 members of Meldreth tennis club took to the courts in the first tournament to be held on the newly refurbished venue.  The play was very competitive with only 3 points separating the top three pairs.  In tied third place were David Crooks with partner John Richards & Malcolm Pullen.  Runners up were Sarah Shoard with Anwen Smith and they received Toblerones as prizes.   Pipping the runners up by just 1 one point were Yvonne Blows & last years’ winner Ralph Betts.  They were awarded the trophies & a bottle of wine each by Club Chairman Richard Evans.  Players thanked Christine Knight for running this very enjoyable tournament.

Since opening the new courts on the 12th August the club has seen a massive increase in membership.  Only a year before,  the membership had dropped to under 40.  After the grand village opening event, the membership has now shot up to over 100 and new members are still signing up.
