2015 Open Mixed Report

The 2015 Minety Tennis Club Open Mixed tennis tournament was run in conjunction with Macmillan Didmarton committee and with the support of the ladies of the Minety WI. Attracting 80 players, the tournament was played on 10 different courts around the area.  Blessed with warm, sunny weather and the sight and sounds of a Vulcan bomber and the Red Arrows, the players had a real treat visiting some beautiful private courts and serving up some high quality tennis.  Volunteers from Macmillan provided a delicious lunch for the players and supporters in Minety Village Hall which was unrecognisable thanks to stunning decorations. The ladies of Minety WI made sure no one went hungry or thirsty with morning coffee and then more tea and sumptuous cakes in the afternoon.

After lunch, the tennis got serious with the winners from the morning being pitted against each other in the Championship tournament and those less successful going through to the Plate tournament. Semi-finals and finals were held at the Minety Tennis Club courts with Jo Adams and Shane Horsell being awarded the Ruth Jenner Cup as winners of the Championship with Briegeen Dolby and Thomas Bowden as runners-up. Charlie Foster and Steve Archer followed up, winning the Plate tournament.

Huge thanks must go to our sponsors and all of the helpers from Macmillan and the ladies of the Minety WI as well as the tennis hosts who kindly donated their courts for the day. The whole event was masterminded and led by Andy Dickinson with support from Julia Hart from Macmillan and together the whole event raised over £4,000.

Planning is already in place for next year, and we would love to see you on 16th July 2016 year for a fabulous day.
