CV Baxter

The club is greatly saddened to hear that Colin (C V) Baxter, aged 94 years, passed away on 27th March at Fordmill Care Home, Montrose. We are thinking of all his family and friends and sending our deepest sympathies.

Colin Baxter won a record number of international caps and played in many championship events including Wimbledon. Amongst his many achievements are the Scottish Singles title on three occasions, the Doubles four times, the West of Scotland Singles nine times and the Doubles title on ten occasions. He competed at Wimbledon as a junior between 1946 and 1948 and at a senior level between 1953 and 1963. He played many times at The North Angus Championships in the 1950s and 1960s and was Montrose Tennis Club’s Men’s Singles Champion in 1972, 1973 and 1974.

Colin was made an honorary member of MTC in recognition of his support and sporting achievements and the C V Baxter Adult and Junior Club Championship events are named after him.

Funeral Service at Emslie S. Collier & Son Chapel of Rest, Broomfield Road, Montrose on Tuesday 8th April at 1pm, thereafter to Rossie Island Cemetery, to which all relatives and friends are welcome, family flowers only please, donations in lieu if desired may be made towards Fordmill Residents Comfort Fund.
