With pressure on to win the last game of the season in an attempt to avoid relegation, the Needingworth team comprising of Sue and Jim along with Di and Chris trundled up the A14 to Bury St Edmunds for a 10.00 am start to play bottom placed Risbygate.

With steely resolve, the Needingworth team set about their task to win.  Unfortunately, right from the outset, it was clear that the Risbygate team hadn't read the script and were determined to ruin the party - and boy oh boy, did they ruin it.  Despite the Needingworth pairings playing good solid tennis, the Risbygate team were just too strong, with the ladies demonstrating time and time again how useful a vicious attacking backhand slice can be when applied properly.  With both the Risbygate ladies being paired with attacking aggressive hard hitting speedy youthful male partners, the net was crowded out at every opportunity.  If that wasn’t bad enough, any lob failing to find the back of the court was dispatched with a well-placed smash.  Sadly, the result of this didn’t fare too well for Needingworth.

It was a slightly down in the mouth Needingworth team that took the long journey home after being beaten 8-0, However, on the plus side, it was so good to see all our players giving 110% and continue fighting right to the bitter end.  Although the Risbygate team should be congratulated on the quality of tennis they produced, with the sheer effort put in today, our own team should hold their heads up high.
