League Matches

Having carefully monitored the weather forecast on the run up to the match, concern turned to possibility that a power failure might prevent the match from going ahead.  However, at 3.15 pm, the power came back on so onwards and upwards.  Mark B, Ben Y along with Brad & Mark S braved the less than perfect conditions to take on bottom placed Royston 5.

Mark B playing his first match since coming back from a knee injury paired with Ben who did a lot of running.  After 4 successive breaks of serve at the start of the first set, Mark and Ben went on to take the first set 6-2.  The second set got away from them having been 5-3 up but eventually losing it 9-11 in a nail-biting tie break.  Mark s & Brad made a solid start to the first set going a break up, before a few unforced errors crept into their game in very trying conditions.

On a night with more service breaks than holds, both teams wrestled with the wind, although in fairness, Royston who play their home matches on very open courts managed the conditions better.  At half time Needingworth were 3-1 down and despite picking up 2 more sets were unable to come away with any points.  On a positive note, the courts played well with no slips or falls from any players and although the team can no longer get promoted, it’s perm any 2 from 5 for the drop, which makes our last game very interesting.  Oh, by the way, it's away against Royston 4.
