Funding Boost

Press Release

Northowram Tennis Club is today celebrating a £10,000.00 funding boost from SUEZ Communities Trust for Tennis Courts Refurbishment.

Northowram Tennis Club was formed in 2018. After a long wait, they have finally been able to sign the lease on two disused tennis courts owned by Calderdale Council. The courts haven’t been played on for 25 years. Whilst waiting for the lease to be signed, the club has managed to secure grants and donations to bring the courts back into use.

This funding will contribute towards the cost of refurbishing the courts. A grant of £45,000 has also been secured from Sport England. Once complete, tennis facilities will be on offer for all abilities. Coaching will take place and schools will be encouraged to make use of the facilities.

Peter Thornton the secretary of Northowram Tennis Club says the club has been formed to enable the disused tennis courts to be refurbished and be used again by members and the general public. We are indebted to the Suez Communities Fund for backing us with this generous grant.

Marek Gordon, Chairman of SUEZ Communities Trust added “SUEZ Communities Trust provides funding awards through the Landfill Communities Fund. We were delighted to be able to offer funding to Northowram Tennis Club.”
