Here’s the latest news from the club coaching programme:-
2020 Coaching Review
After 6 ½ years at Windsor the programme has grown significantly and has many strands which have been bolted on over the years. We’ve been talking with lots of players, parents and committee members in recent months and are looking to make some changes to the group programme in 2020, which are summarised in a document that will soon be sent to all enrolled players and has the outcomes below:
- Some sessions for our youngest players shortening in time, longer sessions for Junior Competitors
- Increased clay court availability on a Monday evening for adult teams and member private play (all 4 clay courts will be available Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs from 6pm).
- A new county player strand launching September 2020
We are also reviewing other areas of activity including communication channels and 1-1 procedures , so look out for future updates.
Half-Term Dates & Kids Camps
Mid-week group coaching and Junior Mornings takes a break from 17th-23rd February due to half-term and there will also be no junior morning on 15th February as our coaches are in attenance at the Welsh conference.
Our popular Mini Tennis camps are running Tues-Thurs 9am-3pm during half-term, suitable for ages 6-11. Team Tennis
We are in the final days of planning for our junior teams for the season ahead, and for the first time Windsor has entered the UK Premier Division for 14&U Boys. We will also enter the South Wales Divisions 1/2 including the new 11U age group. As always, our ability to enter teams is dependant on willing parents to captain a side. If you are able to help, please drop me a line as just like for our senior sides, no captain means no team!
NEW Sessions
In addition to our regular group classes (which can be found here https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/PenarthWindsor/Coaching) we have the following new sessions starting in March. Please email windsor@tennissquad.net if you'd like to try them out
- School Run Cardio Tennis – a tennis-themed workout with Chris running Thursdays 2.15-3.15pm. Suitable for all tennis levels, you’ll have a good run-around to music whilst blasting lots of low-compression balls
Adult Team Training
Huge thanks to the 1st-2nd team players who joined Rob and I before Christmas for a preview of the British Tennis Doubles System we have been implementing in junior county training. The feedback from participants was excellent and all team captains are invited to contact the coaching team to arrange further sessions with the season ahead.
Competitions
A few dates for the diary:
- 28-29th March: British Tour FAST4 Grade 3. This is a new event, and a regional-level version of our national-level Tier 1 event. Running over 1 weekend, it will feature quick-fire short-set matches where we hope to involve lots of our 1st team players.
- 13-18th April: Penarth Windsor Open Grade 3. Now running for over 20 years, the 2020 event will include new categories including 11U Singles, Mens/Ladies Doubles and 45+ Mens/Ladies Doubles. To encourage more of our adult members to take part, we will be offering free entry to all club tournament finalists from last year!
- 4-9th May: British Tour Penarth Tier 1. Our showcase event featuring world-ranked players. More information coming soon from the planning committee 😊
Player of the Month

Adult Social Tennis
We’ve applied for funding from Sport Wales to help develop social tennis opportunities at the club. We hope to get more information out in the coming weeks.
