Championship 2025

On Sunday 14th September, the championships finals were hosted at Pensford Tennis Club.

As the weather was looking decidedly poor in the afternoon, the decision was made to start to play the adult finals from 9.30am, at the same time as the junior finals.

The Ladies’ singles and the Vets’ singles opened the day under a cloudy sky on courts 1 and 3, followed by the Men’s singles and Ladies’ doubles, and finally the Men’s doubles. At the same time, the Men’s consolation match used court 6, whilst the juniors used courts 4 & 5, and when the juniors had eventually finished their marathon matches, the Vets’ doubles were able to play too. It made for a busy day with plenty of matches to watch for the friends and family members who came to support the players and it was generally agreed that mixing the adult and junior finals by starting in the morning was a great success. There were some tight 3-set matches and many high quality, entertaining rallies. Congratulations to all the finalists!

Unfortunately, round 2pm, the rain arrived and further play had to be aborted, which left the Mixed doubles to be played at a later date.. watch this space for the result..

As always, the day couldn’t be a success without our wonderful volunteers who worked tirelessly at providing food and drinks, organising prizes, umpiring on the day, organising the juniors (thank you Ally) and especially Michael for organising it all. Thank you for all you do behind the scenes, we couldn’t do it without you!

Thank you also to Chris Nash, PTC member (ProStrung - www.prostrung.com) who provided the match balls!

This year, as last year, the junior winners received a Pensford t-shirt and medal each as their prizes and the runners-up were given a medal. The adult winners received vouchers from Sheen Sports, with the idea of potentially buying more Pensford kit, whilst the runners up each received some new balls to keep practising. Each pair of adults doubles winners also received a brand new cup, a new addition to the trophy trove to be displayed in their home.
