Christmas family doubles!

Report written by Junior Chair, Jon Guppy:

Much fun and merriment was had at the Christmas Family Doubles Sponge Tournament held at Pershore Indoor Tennis Centre on Sunday 23rd Dec.

14 Juniors aged 10 or younger came along with a family member to play doubles and a chance of a trophy and medal in time for Christmas!

Competitors played 6 mini matches with sponge balls on mini courts - a great fun format to encourage rallying and positive tennis.

The players were encouraged to dress up in festive gear and there were some really good outfits on show - from elves, to Mrs Santa, to reindeer.

On court, winners of the red category Dara Guppy with his partner Caoimhe, impressed by winning all 6 matches. Runner up in this category was Harry Thompson and Dad Neil.

Meanwhile Ronan Guppy and partner Niall took home the Orange category trophy with 5 wins out of 6. Runner up were Alfie Quarmby and Mum Edie.

The last category, green, was won by Tom Porter with brother Jack by only losing 22 points from 6 matches - a great effort. Runner up was Alex Hackett-Smith with Dad Andrew.

So, onto the after party where pizzas and hotdogs were served up in the cafe along with warm fruit punch for those that wanted it, yummy!
