U14 match report

"Pershore Tennis Centre's u14 boys team played their final match of the season in Team Tennis H&W division 1 against Hereford yesterday. The team consisted of Sam Rayner, Toby Atkin, Thomas Edwards and Ben Martin.

In the 1st round of matches Sam and Toby played as no.1 and no.2 in the singles. Toby lost a close match 6-4 6-3 to Lucas Pinches from Hereford, Sam won 6-0 6-0 against Harry McDougall.

Pershore's no.3 and no.4 players started with their doubles match against Harry Davies and Alexander Poe in a close fought match. The Pershore boys started strongly taking the 1st set 6-3, their opponents worked their way back into the match winning 6-3 4-6 6-10.

It was all to play for going into the 2nd round of matches with Pershore trailing 2-1.

Ben tried hard in his match but lost 6-3 6-0 to a consistent Alexander Poe in the no.4 singles rubber.  Sam and Toby played put in confident doubles performance in their 1st outing together winning 6-1 6-0. This result left Pershore trailing 3-2 overall in the match. It was all down to Thomas Edwards in the no.3 singles match to see if he could take Pershore into shoot out! Thomas put in a excellent and patient performance in a match full of long rallies to win 6-1 6-1! This meant a doubles shoot out was required to decide the match result.

With all of their team mates supporting Sam and Thomas from Pershore took on Harry and Harry from Hereford. Pershore put in a strong showing winning the shoot out 10-0 and the match! This result means Pershore will finish u14 division 1 in 2nd place behind the league winners Manor Park.

Well played to all four boys and well done to the rest of Pershore's players who competed in the team this season."
