It was a scorching hot Sunday 8th July when we staged this year’s 14U Singles Junior Club Championships. Despite the heat, all matches were played at a smashing level! We had seven entries into the boys' competition and split them into two groups where the winner of each group would contest the final. Great group matches including Alfie Mills beating Toby Atkin in a Champ tie-break final set, and at the same time on the Clay, Ronan Williams doing the same with a spirited Jack Porter. Boys number one seed Sam Rayner had won both group matches to advance to the final and it was the young (still green ball) player Alfie Mills who was to be his opponent, having qualified in first spot in the other group. The final was played on the clay and made for a great contest with longer rallies – Sam coming out the victor in the end. In the girls' competition was a round robin event and Caoimhe Guppy won both matches - without dropping a game - to take the title. The runner up was Briony Dando who saw off Ruth Teale.
