Pershore Tennis Centre to host LTA Regional Learning Disability Tournament on 6th-7th April 2024

Organised by the national governing body of tennis in Great Britain, the Lawn Tennis Association or LTA, players who are successful will then qualify to play in the national finals at Wimbledon.

This is the 3rd time we've hosted a regional disability tournament. Indeed, we recently won the 'LTA County Competition of the year’ award for this event in 2023 and have been running regular tennis coaching sessions for people with learning disabilities for over 5 years. NB a number of players will be competing at this year’s event.

Anyone wanting to help volunteer at - or sponsor - this event are encouraged to please contact Head Coach, and tournament organiser, Steve Bauer at pershoretennis@hotmail.co.uk.

Sophie Hall, LTA Tournament Director, says: “This event forms an important part of our calendar of disability tournaments. Following on from last year's success we are delighted that Pershore Tennis Centre will be hosting this event again. Our vision is to open up tennis to more and more people regardless of age, background, ability of disability, and providing opportunities like this for our best players with Learning Disabilities is an important part of that vision. Pershore Tennis Centre has been chosen to put on a great tournament and I’m looking forward to it.”

Learning Disability tennis is part of the LTA’s Open Court programme, which is one of the biggest disability-specific sports development programmes in the country. It supports 500 venues in the UK offer disability tennis sessions to their local community. Find out how to start playing at www.lta.org.uk/play-compete/getting-started.

Steve confirms: “The team at Pershore Tennis Centre is delighted to be hosting this event again. We want to share with our local and broader community how tennis competition can be enjoyed by all.
