2018 Awards and Dance Evening

The annual awards and dance evening was held on Saturday 10th November at the Bouverie Hall in Pewsey. Club members brought a wide range of edibles and drinks augmented by top-quality member made desserts plus wine and real ale. During 'supper' members were entertained by "Miss Chief and the Makers", an excellent covers band.

Many awards were then presented for the 2018 season which has been one of our most successful yet.  These included trophies for the Club Championships and recognition for league team successes.  Nominations and winners were also announced for Captain of the Year (Paula Tailby), most improved player (James Town) and club member of the year (Jane Watkins).

Members then took to the dance floor, with one or two disco queens making strong cases for dancing awards next year! At the height of the evening,  an auction of donated prizes saw some marvellous bids been made to benefit the charities chosen this year. A raffle of other prizes completed the fund raising and close to £1,000 was raised overall.

As usual, we would like to thank everyone for coming and making the evening a success.  Big thank-yous go to Mike H for masterminding the event and those members who helped with setting up and tidying up afterwards, presentation of awards, running the auction and raffle and making those desserts!

PTC Davis & Federation Cup

The combined Davis and Fed Cup event took place Sunday 2nd September. Players were assigned to one of four international teams representing USA, Europe, Asia and Australia, with appropriate costumes adding to the fun.

Team Australia won the event  - closely followed by Team Europe .  All teams made it onto the podium as USA and Asia tied for 3rd place.  Some very good tennis was played and Matthew P and Steve Gosling played a great singles match.  Nibbles and cake were also in evidence,  so a good day was had by all.  Photo 1 - All       Photo 2 – Winners

Trip to Guernsey

Following their successful visit to play the main tennis club on Jersey last year Pewsey Tennis club have once again visited the Channel Islands - this time to play a club on Guernsey. Organised by Mike Cox, six men and four women enthusiasts flew from Southampton to join Guernsey Tennis Club to play two days of friendly tournaments last month. Again the event was very successful despite having to admit that the Guernsey players had the edge on Pewsey, but with three days in a great hotel in St Peter Port and evenings sampling Guernsey's finest cuisine in three of its best restaurants, an enjoyable time was had by all, especially on the Saturday night when the clubs dined together. Pewsey have extended a warm welcome for both Channel Islands clubs to visit us here on the mainland .

Casino Evening

A touch of James Bond glamour in the club house!

Just lie a film premier, our fabulously well turned out guests enjoyed red carpet treatement as they arrived at the James Bond Styled Casino Royale evening. Just shy of 40 attendees, young and not so young, enjoyed a great evening of chat, cheese, wine and of course winning and losing lots of playing chips at the Roulette and Blackjack tables.  Prizes were awarded at the end of the evening to those players who had turned the most profit ..... no doubt shortly to be seen on the real casino circuit!  The Casino croupiers provided excellent instruction and entertainment over three hours of non-stop play.  See photos here.
