Throughout the 1980's and 1990's an annual tennis challenge event was played out between the Tennis Leagues of Wirral and of Liverpool. Brought back in 2023 under the guidence of David Sims, the contest consists of an Open Age set of matches and a Veterans Age (over 50's) set of matches, featuring men's and ladies singles, men's and ladies doubles and mixed doubles, with teams consisting of players from multiple clubs across each respective region.
The 2024 Wirral Tennis League vs Liverpool Tennis League Challenge was organised this year by the WTL and hosted by your very own Prenton Lawn Tennis Club on May Bank Holiday, the 6th of May. The weather was perfect and the venue ideal for hosting such an event. The event was fabolously attended by both players and supporters and there was some amazing tennis on display.
Wirral Tennis came out winners on the day and claimed the trophy, so huge congratulations to all WTL players who took part and a special nod to our own PLTC players who represented the league. Thank you to all the players who competed; both leagues feature some very talented players. And a big thank you to all who supported the event and helped create a memorable atmosphere.
Full results will follow on the WTL website along with more photos.
