Club summer report for May 2025
Sat, 17 May 2025 00:00
First of all, an apology! In last month’s issue, I mentioned that our Ist Mens team lost to a team from North Notts. The adage quoted, which started with ‘ Team don’t fret, for defeat is just a step closer etc’ should have been entered as follows:- ‘Team don’t fRET FOR Defeat etc’. You see Retford in North Notts. Ok, as I said last time, a PUNy effort. For any bright spark who did make any sense of it, award yourself 10 Brownie points. Can I still say that? ….. too late I already have. There are 2 more results, with mixed fortunes. On Saturday 26th April our winter mixed team were at home to Sutton Bonington. Despite a brave effort, we lost 46 games to 62. Our stars were Elliott & Roisin who won 25 games out of 36. It looks likely that the team will be relegated.
Better news for our winter Mens team, who were away at Mansfield on Saturday 3rd May and won 72 games to 36. Ed & Arthur won 29 out of 36, with Jordan & Dave winning 28 games. Simon & Matt FINISHed with 15 games to help secure the win. Blow me, I’ve gone pun crazy! My major contribution of an appearance in 1 match, obviously helped in our anticipated promotion.
We have the annual Geoff Perry tournament on Sunday 18th May, which I will report on next time. Won’t be very interesting as I’m on holiday and will, therefore, miss it. It’s probably some relief for Ali, who managed to carry me to the final last year, albeit a losing one.
Currently, we are considering restarting adult & junior coaching. Thanks go to John Trainor for making enquiries on our behalf.
We are also looking into the possibility of an open day, so watch this space for further details.
I mentioned last time that we welcomed back 2 old friends. Since then we’ve also had the pleasure of appearances from 2 more, Jenny & Karen (Kaz).
