MENS 4th TEAM v EPSOM 2nd

Match Report: RLTC Men's 4th Team v Epsom 2nd Team
MATCH LOST 0-4

Also on Sunday 1st July, Richmond Men's 4th Team travelled to the David Lloyd Centre in Epsom for their away match against Espom’s 2nd Team. Play started all too quickly for Ben Marshall & Phil Norris (aka 'The Flowerpot men'), against Epsom's lead pair as the first set was over nearly before it started with 0-6 drubbing. A steadier performance followed in the second set once the team had settled, although this was also lost 3-6. Meanwhile, Bob Andreini & Freddie Saunders did battle with Epsom's 2nd pair. Although the games were close, with good rallies and plenty of deuces, a few too many errors and double faults meant our boys went down 1-6, 2-6.

In the second round, Epsom's weaker second pair allowed Ben & Phil, the 'Flowerpots', more time on the ball. They lost a close first set 4-6, and rallied in the second after an early break with some strong returns, good net play and forehand winners. Ultimately, though, it wasn't quite enough, and the second set was lost by the same score 4-6. Bob & Freddie’s performance also went up a notch in their second rubber; against Epsom's lead pair they gave a good showing against strong opposition in losing  2-6, 4-6.

It's early days for this new RLTC Men's 4th Team, and spirits are not dimmed. "We're looking forward to our next match," says Phil; "Bring it on!"
