Sheila Mary Rumble 15.1.35-27.6.20

Dear Fellow Club Members,

Many of you had the pleasure of knowing Sheila Rumble, who, along with husband John, was an RPTC stalwart for a decade or so. Sheila sadly passed away on 27.6.20 of jawbone cancer, which took her from us too soon and quite unexpectedly.

I personally remember feeling extremely welcomed by both Sheila and John in my early years at the club - the most notable memories being of Sheila's irrepressible and irreverent humour (as well as John's Jimmy Connors'-like shimmy of the hips and pass down the line!). It was always a great sight to see them both pull up at the club in Sheila's shiny red 2-seater.

Sheila always ensured everyone had such fun on the court and she never failed to make me laugh when berating herself with those  expletive-ridden (but lighthearted) tirades. Hilarious, and she knew it. This made it all the more surprising to find out from her service that she was previously a Sunday School teacher!! I so enjoyed our numerous times of sharing a lift to and from our Club's social evenings over the years, talking tennis and music.

Such a sparkling lady - thanks for all the memories Sheila. We're of course thinking of you, John, at this time.

Rest in peace Sheila - we miss you and your zest for life, which we can all learn from.

Andy.

UPDATE - John came by the club on 8th August to see the old club and some of the (old!) members. It was fantastic catching up with him. Such a shame that his shoulder wasn't going to let him get on court with us.  We were also graced by another special guest appearance by Phil "Yabbo" Yabsley, our former Mens Team Captain and Groundman. Hope to see you guys again very soon!
