Competitive tennis starting to return at Romsey Tennis

Following an extremely successful re-opening of Romsey Tennis Club post-lockdown, it wasn't long before the members were clamouring for some competitive tennis. As a result, and following all the necessary guidelines, there is now plenty of competition on offer, from singles leagues to doubles sessions of all standards and shortly team training will also recommence as well as the club singles tournament. Understandably most of the tennis to date has been between members but our top junior Owen has just started our first external competitive action.

Owen Martel, an under-16 regional and national player, has been given the opportunity via the LTA South West region to start playing his first singles matches since the beginning of March. Players have been organised into divisions to give them some competitive matches and enjoy playing again.

Owen has been put in the second division and is the youngest and lowest rated player in his box which gives him great opportunity to test himself at a high level. Last weekend he played two matches with one player coming from Devon and one from north Hampshire. Owen won both matches convincingly 4-1, 4-0 which has given him a great confidence boost after working on tactical and technical improvements to his game with head coach at RATC, Mihàly Bukur. Owen will be competing in further matches next month.
