Romsey & Abbey Tennis Club's (RATC) membership has reached record levels, after a busy restart to action. With tennis being one of the first sports to be available to play during the current crisis, the club has had an uplifting reaction. Courts have been busy and members have benefitted from some spectacular tennis playing conditions.
The club now has 335 registered members and new members have come from across the age spectrum and a wide area. Juniors, students and adults have joined and bolstered the existing healthy mix of ages and abilities across the club. There has also been a high level of ‘pay and play’ non-members using the courts.
Very much a community club, RATC members worked tirelessly to get the club up and running again after its closure between the 23rd of March and mid-May, while minimising the risk of virus transfer. Members have been loving their return to action and the coaching team, led by Hampshire’s Coach of the Year, Mihaly Bukur has been inundated with people with rusty rackets or needing to re-sharpen their skills for competitive tennis.
