Fun in the Sun for Ross Ladies A Team

A tennis match for Ross Ladies A team took place at home, in the beautiful sunshine on Sunday 12th May 2019.  A late replacement Lynn O’Driscoll stepped in and was a welcome addition to the squad whose opponents were the Worcester B Team.

Playing first pair were Brenda Saunders and Val Davies, and the first rubber was a hotly contested affair with Brenda and Val 1-4 down within 20 minutes. Some determined play saw them pull the score back to 6-6 and then Ross took the tiebreak.  Despite some rallies in which the racquets of the opponents seemed like magnets the Ross duo managed to secure a 6-3 score in the second set.

There was a mini pause in play as the ladies waited for Brenda and Val to finish. However, the second and third Ross pairs were flushed with success; Sarah Drake and Sandy Foulkes, Gaynor Raine and Lynn O’Drisoll respectively, who had surged through their first matches dropping only six games between them.

Sarah and Sandy took on the first pair next in a thrilling match.  While Sandy pummelled from the baseline, Sarah was awake at the net with some dreamy smashes.  Hot and bothered, the pair succumbed in straight sets 6-2,6-2. Lynn and Gaynor were in the mood, swinging freely on both wings which enabled them to win 6-4,6-0 against the third pair.  Brenda and Val, warmed to the task with Brenda’s drop shots a significant weapon in a 6-1, 6-1 match.

A superb days’ play saw the Ross team drop just 25 games across all matches, not bad for a middle-aged squad!  A delicious tea was served to the visitors with chat, laughter and some funny tales shared between the ladies.
