The Ross Ladies A Team travelled to Bewdley for the match on Sunday 6th June. One of the team, Lynn O’Driscoll is the team captain and, though injured, arrived taped up and ready to play! First couple were Jane Pepperell and Val Davies who took too long to warm up on the tiger grass surface and went down in straight sets. Ellen Davies and Lynn O’Driscoll took their first match to a tie-break but lost it 10-12. Sandy Foulkes and Hayley Jackson did well against the Bewdley second pair, and dropped only eight games in their straight sets win.
The sun came out as the second rubbers began. Val and Jane revved themselves up and played well against the second pair in a 6-1, 6-0 win. Ellen and Lynn put up a strong fight against the first pair. Lynn’s lack of movement due to her Achilles problem, was more than made up for by Ellen’s retrieving skills and hard hitting. The Ross pair took 5 games from the Bewdley first couple and, though they lost, had a lot of fun which is what it is all about. The whole team then sat in the baking sun to watch the last rubber run its course.
Sandy and Hayley against the Bewdley third pair were solid, and played some superb tennis. The match was a close one which Bewdley just edged 5-7, 6-7.
The final score was 4-2 to Bewdley, who played well and were gracious hosts and lovely company.
