After the recent spate of successes, for Moorgate's juniors, at the Sheffield and District Championships, the Grantham and Abbeydale Junior Opens, as well as the Yorkshire County Championships, Josh Bows, Danny Hernandez Black and Emily Busby have all been called up to the Yorkshire County training squads.
The three players also played their part in league success, at Senior level, along with their colleagues, Megan West, Andrew Cleminson and Daniel Porter, which gives the club great hope for the future, especially with some of the younger players likely to break through, in the next couple of years, under the tutelage of Head Coach, Glyn Smith.
These honours formed the backdrop to the club's Junior Final Day, which saw players as young as six years old, take to the court and the first competition of the day saw the Mini Reds play a round robin tournament, of a very high quality, which eventually saw Jaime Sawyer, in her first competition at the club, prevail over Corey Newsome, in the final.
Jaime also took part in the Mini Orange competition, again reaching the final, but this time losing, to Sam Cordell.
The 12 and Under final was between another newcomer, to the club, Tristan Walker and Cameron Wood and an entertaining match, eventually went to Cameron, whose defensive ability eventually won out.
The Boys final saw Josh Bows win, against a gallant Daniel Porter, whilst in the Girls final, Megan West beat Emily Busby, in a repeat of last year's final.
Next week sees Josh, Emily and Megan try to repeat their success, but this time in the Senior competition.
If you want your children to sample Moorgate, the club will be holding a free half term tennis camp, in association with Tesco, starting on Monday 30th October and running until Thursday 2nd November, which is open to both members and non members.
