Moorgate Juniors Shine at Top Tournament

After the success of Moorgate's senior players in the recent S & D Annual Tournament, it was the turn of the club's juniors at the Junior event, where the club has had a lot of success in recent years. This year was to be no exception.

The club dominated the tournament, with a string of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Caitlin Drury - Last years 9-and-Under Girls champion was this year's 10-and-Under runner up.

Megan Cinco - Had two third place finishes at Under-14 level: in the Girls with Madeleine Busby; and in the Mixed with Jacob Porter.

Megan West - For the second year running was runner up in the Girls 18-and-Under Doubles alongside Emily Busby; who was also runner up in the 18-and-Under Girls Singles.

Daniel Porter - After two wins last year, was runner up in both the Boys Under-16 and Under-18 singles.

There were several major successes on Finals Day: Emily Busby won the 16-and-Under Girls title with an imperious display which saw her win every game; whilst, as expected, Josh Bows won both the Boys Under-16 and Under-18 Singles titles.

The final match of the tournament was a real thriller featuring Josh and Emily in the final of the 18-and-Under Mixed Doubles. This appeared to be theirs for the taking, as they led 6-3 4-1 before their opponents fought back to take the match to a championship tie break. This then ebbed and flowed, but looked to be going away from the Moorgate couple; until they took the last three pointsfor a 10-8 win.

Josh's successes meant that he was also awarded the Most Valuable Player trophy, for the second time in the last three years.
