News - April 2019

Hi everyone, I hope you are well. There's been plenty going on at the club recently and if you are new to the club either through joining us or enrolling on the new coaching programme then "Welcome to Roundhay". I hope you have a long and happy experience with us. If you have any questions then please don't hesitate to get in touch with me or any committee member. This is your club - we're just lucky to be looking after it for you.

Memberships Now Due

Thanks to everyone who's paid so far but remember if you haven't paid then you have until the end of April to qualify for the early bird discount.  Important note: If you paid using the "old" system i.e. through bank transfer then that is no longer a valid method of payment as mentioned in the AGM notification. If you have done this then please contact our treasurer Val Maycock - val.maycock@virginmedia.com to apply for a refund and then  use the Clubspark system to pay in the approved manner.  We have taken 100's of other payments like this and you should be no different. To join just follow this ink: https://www.roundhaytennis.org.uk/membership

New Coaching Programme Launched

Thanks to everyone who booked on the "meet and greet" sessions with Paul, Amy and Danny (less thanks to those who booked on but didn't turn up) it was fantastic to see members of every age and membership category enjoying the taster sessions. It's great to see members signing up to the new sessions as well and having had a lesson with Paul myself last week I'm sure your tennis will improve and you'll have great fun too. If you want to get involved with the new coaching programme then see our website at https://www.roundhaytennis.org.uk/coaching

Roundhay Retain The Weasel!

For those of you who don't know, every year we play our local rivals Chapel Allerton in a pre season friendly for the honour of having a stuffed weasel (seriously) in their trophy cabinet. After last year's comprehensive thrashing we backed it up this year with an equally impressive 20-7 win. For the record both men's teams won 8-1 and the ladies won a very close match 5-4. Thanks and congratulations to everyone who played.

New season about to start

As you know the competitive season is about to start. The courts get busy and sometimes it can be frustrating if you can't find a court to play on. I'd encourage everyone to be patient and flexible and to play social tennis if you want to play at "peak" times. If you want to play with a friend or organise a doubles then there is plenty of court time available - it's up to you to find it. I will try and get all the fixtures on the court planner so you can see exactly when the courts will be busy but I'm going away for a couple of weeks so that won't happen until May. Generally speaking though, weeknights after 8pm, Saturday's after 4pm and Sunday's after 12ish are good times to play.

Wimbledon Draw

Just a reminder that the draw for Wimbledon tickets is on Monday 15th April at 8pm to full senior, intermediate and junior  members who have paid there membership fees for this year and have opted into the ballot. Just a reminder that on the night you must have registered to be in the draw by 7.55pm - if you get here at 7.55 and there is a queue of people in front of you then it is unlikely you will be entered into the draw so please make things easy for everyone and turn up in good time.

I hope to see you on court soon, cheers Chris
