Welcome to our new coach!

Hi everyone,

We have great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Paul Johnson as our new head coach as of 31st March 2019.

Paul's name was mentioned several times in the early stages of the recruitment project and he very quickly emerged as our favoured candidate.

As well as building an impressive programme in a short time at his current club Sandal, Paul also has great pedigree as a player. He is currently rated at 1.1 which is the highest LTA rating anyone can achieve and has also in the past been a "hitter" at Wimbledon.

One of the key points Paul made at his interview was his desire to provide "something for everyone". This means the new programme will appeal to the full spectrum of our membership and will enhance the level of play across the board.

After hearing Paul's ideas and ambition for the club I am very much looking forward to seeing him work. I know in the short term not too much will change (although Paul has indicated he will be reducing prices) but in the medium to long term I'm very excited with what he hopes to achieve.

Paul has the following message to members:

“I am extremely excited to start at Roundhay in the Spring. My ambition for the club is for it to be a flagship programme in the Leeds area with thriving sessions for all ages and abilities. I would like to create links with the Leeds Parks Programme and local schools to increase participation and grow numbers. I would also like to build links with Leeds Beckett University for indoor provision, and Local Player Development centres to help our better players to take the next step into the County Training programme. I will be taking a hands on approach to the junior teams and ensure that I watch as many of the juniors play and compete both in club matches and external tournaments. If any of the members have any questions or suggestions before I begin please do not hesitate to get in contact with me via phone (07747 503338) or email (roundhaytccoaching@icloud.com). Look out for taster sessions in the Easter Holidays in advance of the new programme starting on Monday 15th April!"

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Rosie, Stephen and Val for their invaluable input into this whole project. It was at times a long, arduous process but thanks to them we've come to a successful conclusion. Thanks also to all the members who took part in the on court interviews with the various candidates and of course the full committee for supporting this project.

Lastly, thank you - all our fantastic members. I hope you all welcome Paul warmly and help him out if he has any questions.

Thanks, Chris and the RLTC committee.
