ROYSTON’S ALTERNATIVE WIMBLEDON EVENT Royston Tennis Club held their annual mid Wimbledon seniors tournament on Friday 12th  July and couldn’t have wished for better weather.    16 members played doubles for the prestigious North Star shields & whilst the skill may have not been up to the SW19 event the enthusiasm certainly was.  Everyone enjoyed a very close & competitive tournament.   After the first few rounds a welcome coffee/tea break rejuvenated the players for the final push to the prizes. In a close finish there was an outright winning pair with Nicki Frost partnering Mike Fellingham, taking the shields and a bottle of wine each.  Runners up were Sarah Shoard & Mike Richards taking away prizes of chocolates. The prizes were kindly donated by TESCO Royston. After the match the players had a well earned picnic lunch on the club lawn (there own mini Murray mound!) The players thanked the organiser Christine Knight for organising the tournament & providing the lunch.
